BENGALURU: In a curious turn of events, IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar, who was not found by Enforcement Directorate (ED) was found by Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Both the central and state agencies are investigating the alleged scam in the appointment of veterinary officers by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC).
Gyanendra Kumar was the controller of examinations at KPSC when the recruitment exam was conducted. The ED investigation into Gyanendra’s role started even before CID and the central agency had conducted raid and search on Gyanendra’s house Later ED had pasted a notice on his house to appear for inquiry.
But, in the meanwhile, Gyanendra, who had disappeared for more than a week, suddenly appeared before the CID for questioning. It is suspected that Gyanendra appeared for inquiry before the CID out of fear of arrest by the ED which is investigating the case under PMLA Act as there is suspicion of illegal money transfer during recruitment and and ECIR has been registered. If arrested by ED, bail also difficult and therefore, Gyanendra suddenly appeared for interrogation before CID,it is being speculated.
Following Gyanendra Kumar’s arrest, there is the possibility of more arrests including KPSC officials and middlemen who were in contact with Gyanendra. Based on the statement given by Gyanendra, the CID is collecting information of statements given by candidates, financial transactions and other evidence. Former KPSC chairman Shivashankarappa Sahukar, missing KPSC member Shanta Hosamani and others are also in the sights of the investigating agencies.
During interrogation Gyanendra Kumar has spilled some information regarding other accused. It is said that supporting documents have been found for some allegations on other three members also. The CID has also sought information about bank accounts of many including Gyanendra Kumar, Shivashankarappa Sahukar, members.
The ED had conducted raids at 20 places including Bengaluru and seized some important documents. On Monday, the CID also raid the house of another accused, Basavaraj Kannale, in Sanjay Nagar, seized important documents.
