BELAGAVI: The house of a young man, who eloped with a married woman, was completely vandalised by the married woman’s family members at Bharamaiahnahatti village of Belagavi taluk, under Yamakanamaradi Assembly constituency represented by Minister Satish Jarkiholi. Three people have been arrested so far in connection with the case.
More than 200 people, armed with lethal weapons, attacked the house of Yellappa and unleashed mayhem. It is said that the miscreants also attempted to kill the Yellappa’s family members who were in the house. The attack was carried out by the married woman’s parents and her husband’s parents.
It is said that the woman Nagavva had eloped two days ago with a Yellappa from the same village. Nagavva Nayak had married Basappa Nayak last year. Basappa Nayak and Yallappa Nayak were also close friends. It is said that Basappa and his wife, along with Yellappa Nayak, were working in the same company in Belagavi. The three were reportedly working at Ashok Iron Company in the industrial area.
During this time, familiarity developed and Yellappa Nayak allegedly eloped with Nagavva. Enraged by this, the mob targeted Yellappa Nayak’s family and attacked the house. During the attack, the roof tiles of the house were smashed to pieces and the cupboard and TV in the house were destroyed. It is said that Yellappa’s family members fled to save their lives.
After the attack, there are also allegations that the miscreants fled with gold ornaments, money, and 25 sheep that were in the house. The victim’s family has approached the City Police Commissioner seeking strict action against the miscreants, and a case has been registered at Marihal Police Station regarding this.
Three main accused who committed the crime were Arrested by the Marihal police including Nagaraj Nayak, Ravi Beejagatti and Eshwar Muchchandi. Yellappa’s father had filed a complaint against the three accused and several others. The three accused are relatives of Nagavva and her husband Basappa.A case had been registered at Marihal police station in Belagavi.
