BENGALURU: The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has under taken up a campaign against celebrating Valentine’s Day on February 14. The Samiti requested the police department and district administration not to allow celebration of Valentine’s Day on colleges campus and submitted an appeal in this regard.

The Samiti said Valentine’s Day is an invasion of western culture and Indian culture is losing its significance. Hence, it has decided to hold awareness campaign for youths, the Samiti said.

Hindu Janajagruti Samiti activist Naveen said youths are getting attracted towards western culture.

Naveen, an activist of HJS, said, “Valentine’s Day is leading youths to engage in immoral activities. The young generation is being spoiled by drug addiction in the name of celebration and party. We consulted the district administration and requested to prevent such celebrations on college campuses and in public places. There is a need to take action in order to save Indian culture. A special police team should be formed to prevent such things. We are raising awareness through pamphlet distribution and social media campaigns.”

HJS activist Ranganath said Valentine Day is not part of Indian culture.

Another HJV activist, Ranganath, condemned the celebration, said, “Valentine’s Day is not a part of our culture. Citizens in Western countries are beginning to adopt Indian culture. But ironically, Indians are adopting Western lifestyles such as live-in relationships. Today’s youth prefer to be single. Let’s celebrate Indian festivals and be part of India’s rich culture”.
