Heat wave conditions to prevail in several districts in Karnataka, says Met dept

BENGALURU: Many parts of Karnataka are grappling with intense heat with the India Meteorological Department forecasting heat wave conditions in many districts for the next couple of days too.

According to the IMD, heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail over Belagavi, Bidar, Dharwad, Gadag, Kalaburagi, Haveri, Koppal, Raichur, Yadgir, Ballari, Bengaluru Urban, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Tumakuru, Mandya, Hassan and Mysuru districts on Saturday.

On Sunday, heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail over Belagavi, Bidar, Dharwad, Gadag, Kalaburagi, Haveri, Koppal, Raichur and Yadgir districts.

The IMD also said that warm nights and hot and humid conditions are very likely to prevail over coastal Karnataka for the next four days. No major change in maximum temperature is very likely over the state for the next five days in coastal and north-interior Karnataka.

According to the IMD, a temperature rise of 2-3 degrees Celsius is likely over south-interior Karnataka on Saturday. The IMD issued an advisory to people that said to avoid direct exposure to sunlight between 12 noon and 3 p.m; Drink sufficient water as often as possible, even if not thirsty; wear lightweight, light-coloured, loose and porous cotton clothes; Use protective goggles, umbrella/hat, shoes or chappals while going out in the Sun; avoid alcohol, tea, coffee and carbonated soft drinks, which dehydrate the body.

The IMD also said that light to moderate rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur over some parts of Kodagu, Mysuru, Mandya, Ramanagara, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of the state. (ANI)
