BENGALURU: Heaps of garbage have piled around busts of Dr B R Ambedkar and the late actor Vishnuvardhan at Kasthuri Nagar in Azad Nagar under Chamarajpet Assembly constituency due to the negligence of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the public.

The busts of the  architect of the Constitution and late actor Vishnuvardha, who  was known as ‘Sahasa Simha’ were installed a few years ago. The busts were supposed to enhance the beauty of this place also create a sense of respect among the future generations for the icons. But, the garbage strewn around only highlights public disrespect and official negligence.

The BBMP officials had said cameras would be installed and marshals would impose fines on those littering the place, but garbage continues to be dumped near the busts. Some people throw waste at night and locals are now expressing outrage over the dumping of garbage.

A local resident, Vijay Kumar, said people dump garbage at night. “Police patrol during the day. It has become a tough task to control these people who are dumping garbage. A camera has been installed near the site, but I do not know whether it is working or not. People don’t bother about any warnings”.
