HASSAN: A 25-year-old married man committed suicide due to alleged mental harassment from his father, at Tipu Nagar in Arasikere town on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Aqeel Pasha.

Aqeel Pasha had married Sanobar three years ago, but after a year of his marriage, his father Syed Pasha started abusing the couple in foul language, assaulting them and harassing them mentally and physically. Following this, community leaders and elders intervened and negotiated peace.

Two years ago, Aqeel Pasha and his family shifted to Tipu Nagar in Arasikere, but he had left behind documents including his passport and driving licence at this father’s house in Hassan. When his father refused to hand over the documents, Aqeel had filed a complaint at the Pension Mohalla police station.

When the police called Syed Pasha to the police station, he started abusing Aqeel in front of them, disowned his son and claimed he had no documents belonging to Aqeel. He also insisted that Aqeel give an undertaking not to ask for any documents or property share or even approach the court.

An upset Aqeel returned to Arasikere and narrated to his wife what had happened. The next morning, when his wife and one-and-half-year-old child went to Mysuru, Aqeel ended his life by hanging. The Arasikere town police have registered a case and taken up further investigation.
