HAVERI: The police who are investigating the Hangal gangrape case have found crucial evidence during the spot inspection on Friday evening. A woman, who was a victim of moral policing, had alleged gangrape by the attackers on January 8.

A forensic team from Davangere arrived in Hangal, and, accompanied by the local police, visited the scene of crime where they found inner wear of the woman. The place where the woman was allegedly gangraped is a wooded area about 8 km from Hangal.

Inspector General of Police (East) K Tiyagarajan visited the Hangal police station on Saturday.

According to the victim, she was gangraped at two places in the Shiragod forest by seven men. She has since been sent to the Santwana Kendra run by the Women and Child Development Department. The three accused arrested in the case have been sent to judicial custody. The police are on the lookout for three others while one of the accused is undergoing treatment in hospital.

Inspector General of Police (East) K Tiyagarajan on Saturday visited the Hangal police station and got first-hand information about the progress of the investigation. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is expected to visit Haveri district on January 15 and is likely to be briefed by the police superintendent.

Hindu girl ‘kidnapped’ by Muslim youth

A man has lodged a complaint wih the Hangal Town police alleging that his daughter has been kidnapped by a Muslim youth named Aftab. The girl is a resident of Hanchi Oni in the town and a final-year BCom student at the First Grade College in Malligar village.
According to the father’s complaint, the girl had left home for college, but did not return. He has accused Aftab of kidnapping his daughter. Based on his complaint, the police have registered an FIR.
