The Siddaramaiah Cabinet will meet in Kalaburagi on September 17.

BENGALURU: The Karnataka government is considering setting up a fast track court to try the Renukaswamy murder case in which Sandalwood actor Darshan and his friend Pavithra Gowda are the main accused. Darshan is currently lodged in the Ballari jail while Pavithra is at the Parappa Agrahara central prison in Bengaluru.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is expected to consult his ministers on the issue and a decision on setting up a fast track court is likely to be announced after the cabinet meeting in Kalaburagi on September 17.

Speaking to media persons, Home Minister G Parameshwara said, “A decision will be taken on the issue. There is some thinking on setting up a fast track court so that the case can be tried sooner, but let’s see what the court decides. The police have already submitted the chargesheet and presented the evidence”.

Law Minister H K Patil said, “I personally don’t know about any representation in this regard, but it may have come to the attention of our department. If there is any such representation, I will discuss with the chief minister and we will take a decision”.

Meanwhile, the cabinet is expected to make some major announcements for Kalyana Karnataka region to mark 10 years of reservation under Article 371 J. A separate ministry for Kalyana Karnataka, Rs 100 crore special grants for Kalaburagi city development, development of Chandrapalli as a tourist spot, administrative approval for a forestry college, which has been on the backburner for ages, are among the decisions likely to be taken during the cabinet meeting.
