BENGALURU: The state government, which is firmly pushing for the Hebbal-Central Silk Board tunnel road project, has finally decided to drop the exit planned near Lalbagh after much opposition from citizens.
Constructing the tunnel exit near Lalbagh will damage lot of space inside Lalbagh. So, instead, the government is planning to construct the exit elsewhere. Along with that, Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has instructed GBA officials to identify a suitable place for construction of the tunnel exit.
Locals and environmentalists had protested saying construction of tunnel will damage lot of space of Lalbagh. Following this, the government has decided to change exit construction place. Now, with the Lalbagh exit dropped, there is only one route which can be the alternative. If approved, it could cause damage to hundreds of houses, borewells and also a cemetery.
The alternative route before the government is Wilson Garden cemetery, Siddapura slum, Someshwara Nagar, NIMHANS, Gulbarga Colony, Tilak Nagar and Bannerghatta Road, If this route is selected, there is bound to be opposition again.
Minister Ramalinga Reddy has proposed only one route as an alternative, but that has not been made public. The authorities will study the pros and cons before finalising on the alternative route, sources suggested.
