Govt committed to protecting interests of Kannadigas, says Energy minister

BELAGAVI: Energy Minister V Sunil Kumar on Tuesday said the sentiments of Kannadigas is prime and that the government has not taken any such steps that may hurt their cause.

The chief ministers of both Maharashtra and Karnataka have held discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the interests of Karnataka will always remain foremost. A Bill on the Karnataka Border Area Development Authority will be tabled in the legislature to bring newly declared taluks under its ambit, he added.

“Our government will give importance to development of schools and colleges in the border areas. No only in those areas, the government is bound to protect the interests of Kannadigas not only in Maharashtra, but in any part of the globe”, he said.

Referring to the opposition Congress going soft on Veer Savarkar, Sunil Kumar said the party has realised his value after 75 years. To a question on whether Savarkar’s portraits will be installed in schools and colleges, he said the issue will be discussed in the coming days.
