SHIVAMOGGA: A girl died after falling into a waterlogged construction site near a railway track in Kotegangur in the district on Tuesday. Work on construction of a railway terminal is going on near the rail overbridge. The deceased has been identified as Chaitra, a Class 5 student.
On Tuesday evening, the girl had returned from school. When she reached home, the parents had locked the door of house and were working on the farm. She went to the field and got the key from them. The incident took place when she was returning home. She accidentally fell into a waterlogged area of the construction site.
Chaitra tried to free herself, but could not survive as she stuck in the mud as there was heavy rainfall. After completing work, the girl’s parents looked for their daughter and found her body near the railway overbridge.
Locals alleged that the cause of the incident was that the railway department had not taken proper precautionary measures for construction work, and demanded action against the contractor for the incident. Locals have demanded to give appropriate compensation to the deceased Chaitra’s family. A case has been registered in Shivamogga rural police station in this regard.
