Former MLC Dayananda Reddy kidnapped for Rs 3 crore ransom, let off later

BENGALURU: Former Legislative Council member Dayananda Reddy was kidnapped after midnight on Tuesday near Heelalige, with the kidnappers demanding a ransom of Rs 3 crore. The police are now on the lookout for the kidnappers.

Dayananda Reddy was kidnapped around 12.15 am on Tuesday while leaving Gold Coin Club. Two men on a motorcycle blocked his Toyota Vellfire car and showed a carton box saying that a gift has come for him. As soon as the door lock was opened, one of them barged into the car. He showed a gun and instructed to drive the car where he said.

Meanwhile, two others followed in a red car. Reddy was taken to near Attibele EWS Layout and threatened by holding a gun to his neck. The kidnappers said they have been given a Rs 10 crore contract to kill Reddy. Dayananda Reddy pleaded, “I will give the money myself, don’t kill me”. The kidnappers initially demanded Rs 3 crore and finally agreed for Rs 2 crore.

He pleaded that he had no money now and he would give it in the morning when the bank opens. They told him to call after withdrawing the money. As per Dayananda Reddy’s complaint, the kidnappers then let him go. An FIR registered at Attibele police station and police searching for the kidnappers.
