BELAGAVI: A former gram panchayat member from Tukkanatti village in Gokak taluk has drawn public ire after he organised a grand birthday party for his pet dog by inviting dancers. Videos of the event have since gone viral.

Shivappa Mardi was upset after a new-elected gram panchayat member remarked that the previous members had “swallowed everything like dogs”.

In order to get back at his detractors, Mardi organised a birthday party for his pet dog Krish on a grand scale by cutting a cake weighing one quintal.

Not only that, female dancers also performed in front of farmer leaders and former gram panchayat members. About 5,000 people were fed three quintals of chicken, one quintal of eggs and for vegetarians, there was 50 kg of a sweet dish.

About 5,000 people were also fed on the occasion.

Shivappa Mardi has now drawn the ire the public for his vulgar display of money power.
