RAICHUR: A conveyor belt carrying coal to Units 5 and 8 of the Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS) caught fire and destroyed more than 25 carrying rollers on Monday.

According to sources, the fire broke out due to the negligence of the staff at the thermal power station. The loss has been estimated at Rs 70 lakh. An Andhra Pradesh-based private organisation is managing the thermal power station. The KPCL fire and emergency personnel put out the fire before it could spread to other units.

In August, the coal bunkers had collapsed and even after three months, the first unit is not open.
