BENGALURU: Following the legal action taken against 24 pharma companies for supplying fake medicines to private hospitals, medical stores and pharmacies, the food and drug administration has issued some public guidelines when buying medicine.
The Drug Control Department has advised citizens to immediately file complaints if medicines are found to be fake medicine. It has also advised people to buy medicines only from licenced pharmacies after getting proper tax receipt and bill. If suspicious or doubtful difference is seen on packing of medicines, scan the QR code on the medicines. If it does not scan, complain to Drug Control officer.
A quality test report by the Central Drug Laboratory in August has pointed out that 191 drug samples are Not Standard Quality while 29 medicines were found to be not of standard quality in tests conducted by the State Drug Testing Laboratory.
Medicines were manufactured using the brand name of a popular pharma company following which the FDA has written to Pfizer offices in Australia and Italy regarding the fake medicine case. The FDA has sought information from Pfizer related to quality, composition and manufacturing standards.
The FDA is preparing to check quality of fake medicines based on information from Pfizer. So far FDA has not received information from Pfizer. Once, communication from Pfizer is received, it wil further help to detect fake medicines.
