Ex-corporator named in chargesheet in forceful circumcision of Mandya man

BENGALURU: The Banashankari police have filed a 345-page chargesheet against 12 people, including a former corporator, for forcefully circumcising a Mandya resident and converting him and getting him to offer namaz.

According to the chargesheet, Sridhar, who hails from Mandya, was offered financial inducements and was circumcised at a graveyard and mosque in Banashankari, of which former corporator Ansar Pasha is a management committee member. The circumcision was carried out by one Ataur Rehman and Shabbir.

Sridhar’s name was changed to Mohammed Salman and this was recorded in an affidavit too. He was then brought to the masjid in Banashankari where he was kept under illegal detention. Sridhar was also given money to offer namaz. Upset over this, Sridhar disclosed all that had happened to a woman friend when he had gone to Hubballi, the chargesheet says.

Apart from Sridhar’s statement recorded under Section 164 of IPC, the chargesheet says medical examination has established that Sridhar has undergone circumcision and mentions six witnesses. It also talks about CCTV footage from the masjid, phone call records of the accused, bank transactions showing money deposited in the victim’s account. The case was registered at the Banashankari police station on September 30, 2022.
