Doc says attacked by roomie for talking in Kannada, questioning late calls

BENGALURU: A woman doctor, who is staying in a paying guest accommodation, was allegedly assaulted by her roommate for talking in Kannada and also for telling her not to speak over phone late at night. The incident was reported at the Sri Lakshmi PG in BTM Layout on Tuesday.

A teary-eyed doctor Srishti, in a video message, shared details about the incident on her social media page. The video has now gone viral. Following, this, the owner of the PG accommodation has evicted the other woman who allegedly assaulted the doctor.

Srishti, who hails from Tumakuru, alleged that her roommate, who hails from Kerala, threatened and assaulted her for speaking in Kannada. Srishti told her roommate, “Kannada is my language and my wish”, when the roommate suddenly attacked her. Srishti also alleged that her roommate insulted Kannada language.

Pro-Kannada organisations have now extended their support to the doctor for her respect for her mother tongue.

 

In the videos shared on social media, two woman can be seen arguing with each other. The doctor questions her roommate about coming to Karnataka to earn a living while the other woman retorts saying that she has skills and that is why she is here. Then roommate also allegedly tried to snatch the doctor’s phone for recording videos of the incident.

Srishti also complained to the PG warden mentioning that her roommate keeps talking on the phone even late at night, which affects her individual privacy. Srishti claimed that she works from 8 am to 9.30 pm, and that the late-night calls disturb her.

She also claimed that on January 10, the roommate was on video calls from 2 am to 3 am with her boyfriend, speaking loudly and even focused on her without her consent. When she questioned her roommate, the latter insulted her. She also claimed that her roommate is from Kerala and will perform black magic on her.

Srishti also alleged that her roommate harassed her mentally and defamed her and requested that the latter be shifted to another room. Moreover, the roommate insulted Kannadigas and Kannada using harsh words, she alleged.
