BENGALURU: The son of a former corporator committed suicide by hanging at their house in Attiguppe in Chandra Layout police limits on Thursday. The deceased is Gautham (29), son of former Attiguppe ward corporator Doddaiah.

The issue quickly took a political turn with word going around that Gautam had undertaken contract works for the BBMP and had committed suicide over unpaid bills.

However, Doddaiah, who was Attiguppe corporator between 2010-15, told Public TV denied that Gautam was a contractor. “He did not commit suicide over unpaid bills. For the last few days, he was under depression and was returning home late”, he said.

Family members also said that Gautam did not have any contractor’s licence and had ended his life over personal reasons. His uncle Anand said, “It is not true that a contractor committed suicide. It is a BJP propaganda. We are with the Congress and this is BJP’s propaganda. We were looking for a bride for him for the last two months”, he said.
