Datta Mala devotees allege assault while tying flags

The police intervened after members of a particular community objected to putting up saffron flags.

CHIKKAMAGALUR: Some Datta Jayanti devotees were allegedly assaulted by members of a different community when they were putting up saffron flags for decoration near a masjid at Haandi village in the taluk on Thursday night.

A group of devotees were decorating the village for the upcoming Datta Jayanti celebration on the national highway when they were allegedly assaulted. There was also pushing and shoving at that time. The devotees include VHP and Bajrang Dal activists.

The Aldur police visited the spot and pacified both sides.
