Suresha and his family have been facing social boycott for the last four years.

MYSURU: In a shameful incident, a Dalit family has been suffering social boycott for the last four years right in Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s assembly constituency, Varuna. The village, Srinivasapura, is right next to Siddaramaiah’s native village Siddaramanahundi in Mysuru taluk.

Srinivasapura village is inhabited by people belonging to the Madiga community and the family of Suresh has been boycotted by his own community. After a tussle in the village, the elders had even imposed a cost of Rs 16,000 on Suresh’s family.

When the family said they could not pay such a huge cost, they were socially boycotted. The family has not been allowed to visit the temple in the village and the procession of the village deity is not taken in procession through the street where Suresh’s family lives. Other families are also barred from talking to anyone in Suresh’s family.

The family claimed that despite complaining to the tahsildar, police and the deputy commissioner, and even to CM Siddaramaiah’s son Yathindra, nothing has been done. When there were deaths in the family no one came to their aid, Suresh said and added that if anyone contacts the family, they are fined Rs 5,000.
