MANDYA, DAVANAGERE: A couple were found dead in embrace in a lake near Pandavapura on Friday. The identities of the deceased were yet to be established.

Locals found the bodies in a marshy area on the edge of the Hirode Kere lake in Pandavapura on Friday morning and informed the police. It is suspected that the couple may have committed suicide.

The Pandavapura Town police have registered a case and taken up further investigation to establish the identities of the deceased and the motive for the suicide.

In an unrelated incident, the body of a missing elderly person was exhumed from the Anabur forest area in Jagalur taluk of Davanagere district. The deceased was identified as Dakya Nayak, a resident of Gandhi Nagar.

The body was exhumed after shepherds informed the police.

Shepherds who were tending their flocks found the man’s hand protruding from the ground and immediately informed the police. It is suspected that Dakya Nayak may have been murdered and buried, but the motive is not known. The Jagalur police visited the spot and have taken up further investigation.
