MYSURU: A controversy broke out after bottled water, which had allegedly been consumed, was splashed on the idol of Lord Nanjundeshwara by some miscreants during the Andhakasura Samhara ritual at the historical Srikanteshwara temple in Nanjangud on Tuesday evening.

Devotees said they have been observing the Andhakasura Samhara ritual for generations and some miscreants who were opposed to it splashed water from a bottle on the idol deliberately.

On Wednesday, temple executive officer Jagadish lodged a complaint with the Nanjangud Town police alleging that obstructions were created to the ritual and devotees have been humiliated by some miscreants who splashed water from bottles on the idol.

In his complaint, the temple executive officer mentioned the names of Balaraju, Narayana, Abhi, Nagabhushan and Natesh and sought action against them.
