Congress student union leader, who switched sides, stabbed by miscreants

Congress activists staged protest by condemning the attack on Block president of Student Union and demanded immediate arrest of accused.

CHIKKODI: A student union leader, who had recently switched allegiance to Congress from BJP, was stabbed by two unidentified miscreants on Monday near Ainapur town in Belagavi district. He is now undergoing treatment at a hospital. A case was registered at Kagwad police station and a request has been made to provide protection for him and his family. The police lookout for accused.

Prashant Aparaji is a student union block president affiliated to the Congress in Kagwad Assembly constituency. Earlier, he was said to be close to BJP MLA Shrimanth Patil, but recently joined the Congress and become active in party activities.

Prashant’s attackers allegedly insulted him using abusive language in Marathi and questioned him why he left Shrimanth Patil. Later, they wrote ‘Tathya’ on his shirt. Prashant was seriously injured in the attack.

On Tuesday, Congress activists staged protest demanding the police to immediately arrest the accused. Student union activists suspected that a political conspiracy in the incident. The union members also warned the police that if they don’t arrested the accused, they will hold massive protest.

The injured Prashant said, “When I was on my way to a temple near Ainapur on my bike, two people came from behind saying ‘tham ba tham ba’ in Marathi. I did not care them. The pillion rider tried to pull my bike and they threatened that they would not let me live”.

Yallappa Shinge, president of Congress students wing, said, “Prashant is nice person, unfortunately some miscreants attacked him for some reason. There is a political hand behind this case for sure. Police should take the case seriously and arrest the accused in two days. If they do not make arrests, all the Congress activists will stage a massive protest”, he warned.
