SHIVAMOGGA: In a major embarrassment to Karnataka Congress, its senior leader Shamanur Shivashankarappa urged Shivamogga Lok Sabha constituency voters to re-elect BJP MP B Y Raghavendra, son of former chief minister B S Yediyurappa.

Shivashankarappa was speaking at the Guru Basavashri Award Pradhan and Spirituality Conference organised at Bekkina Kalmata in Shivmogga, where he received the Guru Basavashri award on Friday evening.

“I noticed the development works in Shivamogga district. You have chosen a good MP. The public must elect him again. Shivamogga district needs to develop more. You are blessed to have Lok Sabha members like B Y Raghavendra. All the work to be done in the district has been completed and has progressed. Development work for the people should be the first priority”, said Shivashankarappa at the event.

“Lok Sabha members who have worked as per the will of the people should win in the upcoming elections as well. Veerashaiva Lingayats have many sub-sects. All of them should be removed, and everyone should feel that they are the same; only then will there be unity”, he added.

This is the second instance in the chain of surprising events for Congress in the state of Karnataka. On Thursday, former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, who had joined the Congress ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections last year, returned to the BJP.

Shettar rejoined the BJP in the national capital in the presence of former Karnakata chief minister BS Yediyurappa, Union Minister Bhupender Singh Yadav, Karnataka BJP president Vijayendra Yediyurappa, and Union Minister of State Rajeev Chandrasekhar. (ANI)
