CHIKKABALLAPUR, KOLAR: Two groups, including Congress and BJP workers, clashed during immersion of a Ganesha idol at Kammaganahalli in the taluk on Wednesday evening.

Police personnel have been deployed as a precautionary measure.

The clash took place when the idol installed by the BJP workers was being taken for immersion and the procession reached the spot where Congress workers had installed another idol. It is believed that the cause of the clash was old rivalry.

The Peresandra police resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse the crowd and those injured in the clash were shifted to hospital. A case has been registered in this connection.

Tension prevailed for some time in KGF after the police allegedly abused processionists.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed for some time on Parandalli Road in KGF after policemen allegedly abused some people in foul language during a procession ahead of the Ganesha idol immersion on Wednesday evening.

The situation returned to normal after senior officers intervened and the police personnel publicly apologised. The incident occurred in Robertsonpet police limits and KGF Superintendent of Police Shantaraju and Deputy SP Ramesh visited the spot.
