College principal, SI and 5 constables named in FIR over assault on student wearing skull cap

BAGALKOT: The Terdal police have registered an FIR against the principal of the Government First Grade College, and some police personnel, in connection with the assault on a student who came to college wearing a skull cap.

The move comes in the backdrop of directives issued by the Banahatti JMFC court.

The incident occurred on February 18, when the hijab controversy was at its peak. Naveed Taratari had gone to college wearing a skull cap to which principal Annappaiah raised objection. He later called the Terdal police and got the student evicted from the college campus.

It was alleged that the principal and seven policemen had assaulted him. Naveed was later admitted to a hospital in Jamakhandi and later approached the court.

As per the court’s directive, the FIR has also named Terdal police sub-inspector Raju Y Bilagi and constables Gani P, H Mallikarjun Kenchannavara, S B Kalate, S C Madanamatti aand Sannatti.
