Cold conditions to continue for a few more days across Karnataka

BENGALURU: Karnataka will experience severe fog and cold conditions for the next few days. The Meterological Department has issued alerts to prevent health problems caused by the cold weather and cold wave conditions.

The Meterological Department said that this year’s cold conditions are much more compared to last year. In many parts of the state, severe cold conditions persist. Bagalakot had recorded a minimum temperature of 8.4 degrees Celsius on Friday. A yellow alert was issued in Bidar, Viayapura, Bagalkote, Ballari and Mandya districts for Friday and Saturday.

How can you protect yourself from cold weather?

  • Get indoors when body starts shivering.
  • Wear warm woollen clothing.
  • Wear socks and cover your head.
  • Exposing yourself to sunlight for some time is preferable.
  • Avoid or limit outdoor activities in the night and early morning hours.
  • Take safety measures while using electrical and gas heating devices.
  • Seek medical attention as soon as possible if suffering from hypothermia.

“The cold conditions will be more compared to last year. Many people will experience running nose or nose bleed, dryness and itchiness in the skin. Children and elderly people may experience shivering and many people will also experience indigestion. The body temperature should be maintained. Expose yourself to sunlight”, advised Prasad, a city-based meterologist.
