BENGALURU: In some cheer for the 110 villages that were added to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits, Cauvery water will be supplied to those parts from October 16 under the Cauvery Phase-5 project, after the Dasara festivities.
The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has completed the Rs 5,500 crore Cauvery Phase-5 project and residents of these areas hasve been waiting for Cauvery water supply for years. Many of them have even paid up for the connection but had not been getting water supply.
On October 16, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the drinking water supply project from the BWSSB facility at Torekadanahalli which will supply 775 MLD of water to the newly-added areas. The areas that will benefit from the project include those under Yeshwantpur, Dasarahalli, Bommanahalli, Mahadevapura, RR Nagar Assembly constituencies.
The Cauvery Phase-5 project was launched in 2019 with funding from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Initially, 175 MLD of water will be supplied which will be increased in stages. The areas that will be covered have been depending on borewell water all along.
