Class 7 student attempts suicide at home, harassment by teachers and schoolmates alleged

BENGALURU: A Class 7 student attempted to end his life at his house at Mariyappanapalya, allegedly due to harassment by his teachers. However, he was rescued by his quick-thinking brother, but sustained serious injuries.

The student Samarth was allegedly thrashed by his teachers at a private school and was upset about it. He has been admitted to a private hospital in Nayandahalli. His parents have blamed the school administration and have registered a complaint at the Jnana Bharati police station.

The RTE student had refused to go to school a few days ago and his parents Mahesh and Kusuma had advised him to at least complete Class 7. “We don’t know what happened at school, but Samarth was allegedly harassed by other students and thrashed by teachers. He returned home from school and attempted suicide. We came to know about the suicide attempt when we reached the hospital”, they said.

Block Education Officer South-1 Rekha visited the hospital and also collected information from the parents. “I will file a report about the alleged harassment to the DDPI recommending action against St Philomena’s School. The health of the student if important and doctors say he is out of danger. The school should not make children stand out in the Sun.
