BENGALURU: After rural areas and smaller cities, the state capital Bengaluru too is facing huge power cuts, drawing the ire of not just citizens, but also industries and hoteliers.
Upset over the frequent power cuts, the Bengaluru Hoteliers’ Association has written to Bengaluru in-charge Minister D K Shivakumar highlighting that the unscheduled loadshedding is affecting the hotel industry which relies on cold rooms, refrigerators and grinders.
The Bruhat Bengaluru Hotels Association has sought advance information about loadshedding and appealed to the Deputy CM to expedite power purchase from other states. Association president P C Rao said, “Due to the frequent power cuts, our industry is facing a lot of problems. The government should immediately address this problem and purchase power from other states apart from setting up new power generation units”.
On the other hand, industries too are upset over the losses they have had to suffer on account of unscheduled power cuts. The Peenya Industries Association too has planned to meet the energy minister and highlight the fact that not only are they being charged more, they also have to put up with unscheduled power cuts.
“We are facing frequent power cuts for 15-30 minutes. We need uninterrupted power as we have many processing units and they face huge production losses. We are just recovering from the Covid losses, and already power tariffs have gone up. We already pay huge taxes to the government and we should get uninterrupted power. Otherwise, the industries will slip back into losses. We have already met Bescom authorities and we plan to meet the Energy Minister K J George soon”, said Mohammed Arif, president of the Peenya Industries Association.
