BENGALURU: Well-known cinematographer, director and producer Ashok Kashyap was appointed as the new chairman of the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy on Saturday.
He will take charge with immediate effect and he will hold the position for the next three years, according to the notification issued by M Jecintha, Secretary to the Kannada, Culture and Information Department. The KCA comes under the jurisdiction of the Information and Public Relations Department.
Ashok Kashyap is an ace Indian cinematographer who works primarily in the Kannada film industry. He is known for his amazing camera work in films like ‘Bhuvana Jyoti’ (1994), ‘O Mallige’ (1997), ‘Shaapa’ (2001), ‘Sundari Neenu Sundari Nanu’ (2001) and ‘Uppi 2’ (2015). The government presented the Karnataka State Film Award for his work in ‘Shaapa’, according to his bio on his website.
Ashok won for ‘Best Cinematographer’ award in 2001. His other significant film credits include ‘Super’ (2010), ‘Super Ranga’ (2014) and romantic thriller ‘Kaafi Thota’ (2017). He made directorial debut with the movie ‘Dhwaja”.
The Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy conducts workshops, seminars and other consulting camps to enhance expertise in various fields of filmmaking, publishing history-based books, research, introduction, periodicals related to films and cherishing rare films.
