BENGALURU: A one-and-a-half-year old girl child died after her father accidentally drove a car over her around 11.30 pm on Monday night at HSR Layout. The incident has come to light two days later. The deceased child is Shaija Jannath.
The family had gone to Channapatna for a relative’s wedding and had returned home late. Everyone got out of the car and went into the house while Shaija was playing in the front yard with another child. In CCTV footage that is available, Shaija’s father can be seen shifting some luggage from the car’s boot into the house. When he gets into the car again, the child ran out of the house and stood beside the car. Unaware of her presence, the father moved the car which knocked down the child and the rear wheel went over the toddler, killing her.
While the father drives away in the car, some neighbours and family member can be seen running towards the child a few seconds later. A woman from the house picks up the child and takes her home, but Shaija did not survive.
A case has been registered in this regard at the HSR Layout traffic police station.
