RAICHUR: A case has been registered at Devadurga police station against the Panchayat Development Officer of Jagira Jadaladinni panchayat following the death of a five-year-old child allegedly after consuming contaminated water.

The victim Hanumesh’s father Erappa filed a complaint against the PDO Renuka. Erappa has demanded appropriate action against the PDO in his complaint. Renuka had already been suspended after over 30 people in the village fell ill due to her alleged negligence towards the problems faced by the villagers.

Karemma Nayak, MLA of Devadurga, visited the hospital and inquired about the health status of the patients.

Drinking water being supplied to the village got contaminated as the pipeline, which is close to a drainage line, was broken and no one repaired it. Thus, drinking water was mixed up with sewage water, which led to health issues.

Villagers claimed that the PDO had been negligent and did not respond to their problems. They alleged that most of the people in the village were sick, with vomiting sensation and diarrhoea after drinking the dirty water.

Dr Surendra Babu, the district health officer said, all are stable and some patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Surendra Babu said, “About seven female patients, six male patients and three paediatric patients, and a few others are undergoing treatment at the hospital as they came with complaints of vomiting and diarrhoea. No one is admitted to the ICU, all are stable in health”.
