MANDYA: A Tamil Nadu-registered MPV suddenly caught fire as it was moving near Ganangur in Srirangapatna taluk on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway on Saturday.

Upon noticing smoke in the engine compartment, the driver stopped the vehicle by the side of the road and all the occupants immediately got out. In a little while, the car was engulfed in flames. The incident occurred in Srirangapatna Rural police limits.

Range Gowda, another motorist, who was coming from Bengaluru, said, “Initially, there was a little smoke coming from the engine compartment. The occupants of the car called me for help, but I could not open the bonnet. I took out all the luggage from the vehicle (Renault Lodgy) and by then it burst twice and I retreated. Apparently, they had hired the vehicle”.
