The BWSSB has lodged a complaint against drilling of a borewell at Sai Layout in Medahalli.

BENGALURU: After the monsoon deficit and the depleting ground water table, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has begun cracking down on those sinking borewells unauthorisedly. The board has now started registering complaints with the police against the violators.

With shortage of Cauvery water, residents in many areas are shelling out thousands of rupees for water supply through tankers. In a bid to cash in on the prevailing situation, some people are drilling borewells even before getting approval from the board.

In a recent case, the BWSSB has lodged a complaint with the Avalahalli police against drilling of a borewell illegally at Sai Layout in Medahalli and has sought action against the violators. The crackdown comes amid fears of depleting ground water resources, officials said.
