Bus fare hike likely ahead of Deepavali after milk price rise

BENGALURU: This Deepavali may bring a double shock for the people of state who are already distressed due to price hike of essential commodities. The government has given nod for bus fare hike along with milk prices and the increased rates are expected to take effect from November 1.

The state Cabinet has given the green signal for the milk price hike and the government is expected to make an official announcement after Council election from the graduates constituency. The government had formed an expert committee under leadership of retired IAS officer Atul Tiwari regarding the bus ticket fare hike and the report is expected to be submitted soon.

The committee had conducted a study over two months regarding the financial status of the four transport corporations including KSRTC, BMTC, KKRTC and NWKRTC and Transport Minister Byrati Suresh had said the issue will be discussed in the cabinet. It is expected that bus ticket fares may be hiked by 12 per cent

In January 2025, the Transport Department had increased ticket fares by 15 per cent at a rate of Rs 6 per stage. This time, transport corporations had demanded 40 per cent ticket fare hike. The BMTC is facing huge losses and the ticket fare hike may be slightly more than other corporations.

On Tuesday, the Cabinet gave its consent for increasing milk prices by Rs 8 per litre. Of this, Rs 6 is expected to go to farmers and Rs 2 to the milk unions. This will be fourth time milk price have been hiked in three years after Congress government came to power. From 2023 till now, milk prices have increased by Rs 9 per litre.

  • August 2023 – 3 Rs increase.
  • June 2024 – 2 Rs increase
  • April 1, 2025 – 4 Rs increase.

If milk price is hike by Rs 8, the revised price will be:
