In videos from inside the bus, which are doing the rounds on social media, the bus driver can be heard saying that the brakes had failed. The conductor Raghavendra can be heard asking the driver Rajkumar to hit the brakes while the driver replied that the brakes weren’t functioning.
Later, the driver said the bus skidded when he applied the brakes and hit a motorcycle after which he panicked and the bus hit a few more motorcycles and four cars. The BMTC is investigating whether there was brake failure or if there was negligence on the part of the driver. The bus belongs to Depot 25 and was plying on the 7A/5 route.
