BENGALURU: A BMTC bus driver and conductor were threatened with swords by unidentified rowdies, late last Thursday night at the BMTC bus stand in Kumaraswamy Layout. The driver, Nagendra, has been admitted to a hospital with injuries to his head, eye and left arm.

The video of some rowdies chasing the driver while wielding a sword at him, was captured on a mobile phone. Nagendra is the driver of the 20th depot of BMTC Banashankari. He has been working at BMTC for almost 30 years.

Last Thursday, they were on night shift duty on Route No 15E/2 and were sleeping after completing their duty hours. Four miscreants started shouting loudly at the bus stop and Nagendra told them not to shout there.

Angered by this, one of the four miscreants said they would do whatever they want and used abusive language. They attacked the BMTC driver on his hands, face and neck when he got down from the bus to talk to him. They also attacked the conductor on the head with a machete. The driver and  conductor ran away when the rowdies came to attack them again.

Later, the driver went to Vasavi Hospital with the help of the conductor and received first aid. From there, he was admitted to Victoria Hospital, and he later lodged a complaint against the unidentified rowdies. An FIR has been registered at the Kumaraswamy Layout police station.
