BMRCL authorities propose more safety measures in light of suicides

BENGALURU: Shaken by the recent suicide cases on Metro tracks, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) authorities are planning to more safety measures in order to prevent any such incidents in future.

The BMRCL officials are planning to install platform screen doors at all Metro stations in the city. Considering the safety of Metro passengers, it is being planned to install U-girders and to further increase the number of security personnel at the stations. It is planned to increase staff not only at stations where the number of passengers is high, but also at all the stations in the city.

The number of security personnel was increased after a person committed suicide at the Metro station in January. The BMRCL has decided to further increase the number of staff following Thursday’s incident where a law student, Dhurv Jatin Thakkar, a native of Delhi, ended his life at the Attiguppe station by coming under an oncoming Metro train.

The 19-year-old law student died after jumping on to the tracks and and coming under a Metro train at the Attrguppe Metro station on Thursday after. It was reported that the youth was standing at one end of the station platform before jumping on to the track.

Top BMRCL sources told Public TV that taking the incident seriously, a complete barrier wall is being planned near the corners of Metro stations to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
