BENGALURU: A BJP worker was brutally assaulted, allegedly by Congress workers, at BTM Layout in the city on Sunday. He has since been undergoing treatment for the injuries at a hospital.

Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya at the Madiwala police station in the wee hours on Monday along iwith the daughter of the injured BJP worker.

The BJP worker Harinath was allegedly attacked around 8 pm on Sunday when he was out for a stroll. “On seeing me, former mayor Manjunath Reddy first punched me in the face. Then, he along with his son Nitesh Reddy, Nanda and Jangli Manju assaulted me and tried to kill me. They even took away my phone”, he claimed.

In the wee hours on Monday, Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya reached Madiwala police station and demanded the immediate arrest of the attackers. “I have brought the issue to the notice of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and our national president J P Nadda. If the attackers are not arrested soon, we will stage a massive protest”, he demanded. Along with a few BJP workers, he had camped at the police station demanding action against the accused. The injured Harinath’s daughter was also present.

Congress workers also stated a protest in front of Madiwala police station on Monday.

On Monday morning, Congress workers also staged a protest in front of the Madiwala police station alleging that they were being harassed and that false cases were being filed against them. They also raised slogans against the BJP. The protesters were led by BTM Layout Congress MLA Ramalinga Reddy.
