Bengaluru, several districts record good rainfall on Monday; more rain expected over next 3 days

BENGALURU: Several parts of the city witnessed heavy rainfall, as predicted by the Meteorological Department, on Monday late evening, bringing much-needed relief from the heat. The weather department has said that rain will continue in the city for the next three days.

Several places including Mysore Road, Deepanjali Nagar, Bapuji Nagar, Nayandanahalli, Atthiguppe, Mysore Bank Circle, Chamarajpet, KR Market, Binny Mills, Chikpet and Majestic witnessed heavy rain. The road was waterlogged near Satellite bus stand due to the heavy showers and motorists struggled to navigate.

Town Hall, KR Market, Corporation, Kalasipalya, Lalbagh, Shantinagar, Jayanagar, Majestic, Vidhana Soudha, Wilson Garden, MG Road and Brigade Road among other parts of the city also received heavy rain. Hebbal, Dollars Colony, Mattikere, Yeshwantpur, Mahalakshmi Layout, Malleswaram, Seshadripuram, Sadashivanagar, Mehkri Circle, RT Nagar, Yelahanka also received heavy rainfall.

There was massive flooding at the Shivananda underpass, leading to traffic jam near Shivananda Circle. An open drain near the underpass poses a danger for commuters and it may be recalled that a man had died after falling into the drain three years ago.

Mandya, Mysuru and Kodagu recorded a good rainfall. Rain is forecast for three days from Tuesday in many places and a yellow alert has been sounded for the next three days for south-interior Karnataka. Districts including Chamarajanagar, Hassan, Kodagu, Mandya, Kolar and Mysuru are likely to receive heavy rain while there is a possibility of moderate rain in the coastal region.

There is a possibility of increase in temperature in north interior districts like Dharwad, Raichur, Kalaburagi, Haveri, Koppal and Gadag and it is expected that the temperature will increase by 2-3 degrees Celsius.
