Bengaluru police team fires at gang of dacoits, nabs them in Gangavati taluk

KOPPAL: The Bengaluru police, who were hot on the trail of a gang of dacoits, fired at them near Mushtura in Gangavati taluk on Friday.

The Chikkajala police were chasing five people who were wanted in a dacoity case. But when the gang tried to attack the police party, the police fired at them. Two of the gang sustained injuries in the leg during the shootout while some policemen also sustained minor injuries.

After being shot, the two were hiding but were later nabbed by the police and taken to a hospital in Gangavathi where they were treated for their injuries. They were identified as Shankar and Ashok.

The gang faces several cases at Chikkajala police station and three of them have been arrested. They are Ambanna, Parashuram and Adaviappa.

Police inspector Praveen and constable Basavaraj, who sustained injuries in the shootout, were treated at the government hospital in Gangavati.
