BENGALURU: The Bengaluru East City Corporation has deployed a special vehicle fitted with hydraulic equipment for catching and controlling stray cattle on the roads. The move is aimed at reducing troubles caused to the travelling public due to stray cattle and other livestock and facilitate smooth traffic.
Vehicle users and pedestrians often face problems due to livestock including bulls, cows, calves, buffaloes, oxen, bullocks roaming on the roads. Due to cattle standing in the middle of road or lying down, there is a possibility of accidents. In some situations due to livestock suddenly entering road there is possibility of vehicle riders losing control. Cattle can also be seen fighting each other and roaming, causing filth on pedestrian paths, obstructing movement of pedestrians.

Hence, giving priority to public safety and protection of livestock and smooth traffic, the hydraulic cattle catching vehicle has been pressed into service. Livestock will be taken to shelters and action taken as per rules. Fines will be imposed on the cattle owners and after paying the fine amount, the livestock will be handed over to owners.
Until a cattle shed is constructed in Bangalore East City Corporation limits, livestock that are seized will for now be shifted to Bengaluru Central City Corporation’s city cattle shed at K R Market. Livestock without owners will be handed over to Goshalas as per rules. Action will be taken as per rules against owners who repeatedly leave livestock on public roads and the cattle will be shifted to goshalas.

Apart from affecting cleanliness of the city due to stray livestock, trouble is also caused to traffic. There is possibility of accidents due to cattle sleeping on roads, moving and suddenly coming in front of vehicles. The livestock control operation will help in protection of public life, safety of livestock and smooth traffic. “Therefore livestock owners should behave responsibly not to leave their livestock on public roads said Additional Commissioner (Development).
Fines will be imposed as per Karnataka Cattle Trespass Act, 1966 Chapter-III, under Sub-section (1) of Section 10, as per notification of Urban Development Department of Karnataka Government number: UDD 569 MNU 2012, Bangalore: 05-05-2014 on owners who leave livestock on public roads.

In case of leaving cow, ox, cow, buffalo and buffalo bull on public roads, fine of Rs 600 per livestock for first three days or part thereof and Rs 300 per day after three days will be imposed. In case of leaving calves on public roads, fine of Rs 300 per calf for first three days or part thereof and Rs 200 per day after three days will be imposed.
In case of leaving horse, mare, gelding, pony, colt, filly and mule on public roads, fine of Rs 100 per livestock for first three days and Rs 50 per day per livestock after three days will be imposed. In case of leaving donkey or pig on public roads, fine of Rs 50 per livestock for first three days and Rs 25 per day per livestock after three days will be imposed.
In case of leaving sheep, goat and their young on public roads, fine of Rs 25 per livestock for first three days will be imposed.
