HASSAN: A lorry carrying cases of beer bottles overturned after one of its tyres burst, near Doddapura village in Hassan taluk on Thursday night. Motorists and locals carried away beer cases during the night itself and lakhs worth of beer went waste.

A lorry loaded with various brands of beer from the Woodpecker Distilleries in the Industrial Development Area of Hassan city was heading to Koppal when the rear tyre of the lorry burst. The driver lost control, the lorry climbed on to the divider and overturned. Around 1,100 cases of beer bottles and cans worth approximately Rs 17 lakh that were in the lorry were strewn all over the road.

Beer of Legend, Royal, Power Cool, and Sunny Beach brands bottles flowed across the road. Beer bottles and cans were scattered everywhere on the road, and traffic on one side of the road was completely shut down. The incident occurred within the limits of Hassan Rural police station.
