BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) plan to convert its head office, a heritage structure, into a hi-tech building has met with strong opposition from citizens.
The Palike head office at Hudson Circle has a history of 90 years. The ground breaking ceremony was performed by the then Mysore king Krishnarajendra Wodeyar in 1933. The stone building has a history and architectural beauty of its own.
The Miscellaneous Projects Engineering Department (MPED) of the Palike, which is tasked with day-to-day maintenance of the head office and other buildings, maintenance of Town Hall, etc., is now replacing the old style windows with glass windows.
Citizens say the renovation is only spoiling the beauty of the building is just a ploy to make money. They have appealed to the authorities to protect the heritage building and restore the old windows.
