BENGALURU: With hours to go befor the nominations to the seven Legislative Council seats are finalised, there is quite a bit of anxiety in the BJP camp in Karnataka.

The senior leadership in Delhi, which already has three sets of names — from the BJP state unit, the RSS and the party top brass, will take a final call on the candidates. Tuesday is the last day for submitting nominations and it is expected that the list of candidates may be announced later today. There is also speculation on whether there will surprise candidates.

Amid all this, there has been chatter about former chief minister B S Yediyurappa’s son B Y Vijayendra making the cut for a Council seat. The party’s central election committee discussed the issue at its recent meeting and some leaders apparently felt that it may be better to task Vijayendra with party work.

Vijayendra is currently vice-president of the BJP state unit.
