BENGALURU: The state government rolled out many schemes, including the Shakti scheme, Anna Bhagya, Gruha Lakshmi and Gruha Jyothi. However, though the winter season is about to set in, children studying in BBMP schools have not been given sweaters which they get every year.

More than half the academic year has already been completed, but, the sweaters still elude the students of BBMP schools. This has led to questions whether the Congress government has stopped spending on such programmes as it is already spending thousands of crores on the implementation of the Congress guarantees.

There are a total of 24,000 students studying in BBMP schools and colleges. The money for purchase of sweaters is usually deposited directly in the bank accounts of the children or their parents. In another three-four months, the academic year will be completed, but the BBMP has not initiated this process so far.

Palike Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath said the direct benefit transfer (DBT) process towards purchase of sweaters has just started. “We have collected the details and will start the DBT process soon”, he said.
