BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has planned to transfer lunch money to the accounts of Pourakarmikas directly, instead of providing food, in the city.
Earlier, the BBMP provided food for its Pourakarmikas, but they had complained about the tasteless meal. The BBMP has now planned to deposit Rs 30 per day towards lunch expenses instead of providing lunch. There are 18,700 pourakarmikaa working in the BBMP on contract basis.
“The motive behind depositing money is good because pourakarmikas would get unhygienic and tasteless food. I informed the BBMP commissioner about it, and now they are planning a new scheme, which I am very happy about. However, they have decided on Rs 30 for lunch, which is extremely low. In my opinion, they should get Rs 50”, said Babu, President of BBMP workers Federation.
“We are planning a new scheme for the Pourakarmikas to deposit money instead of providing food. We have planned to give money along with the GST. We have discussed this with organisations”, said Tushar Giri Nath, BBMP chief commissioner.
