BENGALURU: Residents of Mahaveer Ranches Apartments in the city, have been facing the menace of stray dogs for many years. They appealed to the BBMP officials to provide shelter for the strays or shift them after a few incidents of dogs chasing the residents within the campus. However, another group of dog lovers opposed any such move.

Following this, the Palike approached the Sahavartin animal protection team and a team, along with the BBMP officials, visited the apartment to convince the residents that they had no provision to relocate or shift the stray dogs. But, the residents shouted at the officials and expressed their anger. The officials now plan to take legal action against the residents.

Sadhaana Hegde, a social worker, said that as per the Animal Birth Control Rules 2023, stray dogs should not be shifted from the place where they live. “People have forgotten that dogs are innocent creature. There are allegations that some residents are killing stray dogs. An FIR has been registered against 15 people at the Parappana Agrahara police station”, she pointed out.

Dog lovers expressed their anger at the residents for their behaviour. They also demanded stringent action against those residents at the earliest and said it should be a lesson for others as well.
