BBMP busy making plans to reduce congestion at 75 traffic junctions in city

BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is drawing up plans to reduce traffic congestion at 75 different junctions in the city.

Bengaluru is growing exponentially and with all major multinational companies setting up shop here, the city has become a technology hub for India. Many people are migrating to the city for work and it is one of the most populous cities in India. According to a recent survey by Tom Tom, the city is one of the most densely populated in the world. In the city, it takes 29 minutes to travel a distance 10 kilometers.

BBMP is making plans to reduce traffic congestion at 75 different junctions in the city.

The BBMP is preparing a blueprint to reduce traffic congestion and the officials have been instructed to mark out 75 junctions where traffic flow is a problem. They have been told to prepare a report on measures that can be taken to prevent traffic mess.

Steps that have been planned to control the traffic congestion:

  1. Clearing congested roads and evicting encroachments.
  2. Widening narrow roads.
  3. Buy land from property owners for road-widening.
  4. Identify 75 traffic congestion junctions and divert traffic to avoid congestion.
  5. Lay more roads and develop existing roads.
  6. Construct more flyovers.

“The population and the traffic in the city are rising. Earlier, we identified traffic congestion junction at places like Goraguntepalya, Hebbal, and comparatively, the traffic congestin has become lesser at these places. We have an intra-department meetings with BWSSB, traffic police, and agencies. We will identify high-density corridors, expand the road, clear footpaths and create bus bays. We will clear the encroachments from the roads and buy properties, where needed, for road development”, said Ravindra, BBMP Special Commissioner.
